Jason Quinones
Graphic Artist
Name: Jason Quinones
First job after finishing school: V.B. Concepts, an Australian company with offices in downtown Manhattan. They produced graphics for Warner Bros. to be used on items sold exclusively at the Warner Bros. Stores. I was hired as an Illustrator and drew and inked by hand all the classic WB cartoon characters like Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Marvin the Martian, Tasmanian Devil and many more for men’s, women’s, boys and girls clothing and hard goods. Worked for V.B. Concepts for about 4 years and visited Australia twice to work in their home offices.
Current job:
Working as a Graphic Artist for GARAN Inc. creating boys t-shirt graphics for the GARANIMALS children’s wear brand, which is sold online and exclusively at WAL-MART stores nationwide. I create and illustrate traditionally and digitally, drawing and inking by hand or creating graphics in Illustrator and or Photoshop. I have worked with GARAN Inc. for close to 10 years now.
Reason I love my job:
I love my job because having worked as a graphic artist for licensed brands (Warner Bros., Scooby-Doo, Marvel Comics Spider-Man, DC Comics Batman) for many years for various children’s wear companies I know that most licensors are very
protective of their property and how it is represented publicly. This puts MANY restrictions on the artist creatively as the licensor has final say over all artwork going into final production. For the GARANIMALS brand i create GENERIC boy’s t-shirt graphics, which means I have way more artistic freedom. If the designer requests a robot vs. a dinosaur graphic on a t-shirt I can pretty much draw that scenario however I want with usually little to no revisions.
Current city: New York, NY
I started drawing when: I was really young.
Favorite artist: Frank Miller, R. Crumb, Will Eisner, Coop
Favorite book: The Dark Knight Returns, Sin City, Beg The Question (a.k.a. Minimum Wage)
Film I could watch over and over: Taxi Driver, Fight Club, Pulp Fiction
I’m listening to Podcasts while I work.
Last comic book I read: OHIO IS FOR SALE, a self-published indie comic, written and illustrated by Jon Allen.
Drawing instrument of choice: #2 Pencil, Ball Point Pen, Mouse
Currently working on:
More comics for my book BEER & COOKIES Vol.2. I have copies of BEER & COOKIES VOL.1 along with other comics, sketchbooks and zines that I wrote, drew, inked, printed and or self published and sell these items online, at comic conventions and comic shops in the NY/NJ area.
