Taught by industry professionals, The Kubert School’s Online Studies Program presents the student with a six-week intensive designed for them to learn by instruction and critique. The Online Studies program is a great way to hone your skills and knowledge as a cartoonist.

Digital Coloring - Brian and Kristy Miller, Mondays starting 11/16/20 - 12/21/20

This class takes place over six weeks, once a week, for a total of 6 sessions. 6:00pm - 7:30pm ET. Software Required: Adobe Photoshop

Brian & Kristy Miller are founders of the digital color studio Hi-Fi Colour Design. The team at Hi-Fi colors comics like The Flash, Aquaman, Doctor Who, Superman, Teen Titans, Harley Quinn, Scooby Apocalypse, and more. As the authors of several art-instruction books including; Hi-Fi Color for Comics, the creative duo is also focused on art education. They created Hi-Fi Academy as an outreach program where they visit schools and art galleries to share comic art education with the public. In addition to his work coloring comics, Brian is also a respected illustrator known for his work for Star Wars, The X-Files, Doctor Who, Rick & Morty, and Archer as well as his pop culture and gallery artwork. In addition to running Hi-Fi, Kristy is an anthropology/archaeology professor with a PhD in adult education.

Digital Lettering - Students are instructed in the digital techniques of lettering while learning the fundamentals with the use of Adobe Illustrator. Word balloons, captions, sound effects (SFX) and title lettering are covered.

Taylor Esposito is a freelance letterer for numerous publishers (DC Comics, Dynamite, and Legendary). He is also a former staff letterer for DC and production artist/digital compositor for Marvel Entertainment. He operates his own graphic design business specializing in logo design, lettering, and comic book production. Taylor is instructing our Lettering and Digital Production classes.

Students hone their drawing and storytelling skills in this class to the next level! Students will focus on producing art for comic books and graphic novels. Traditional visual communication techniques will be reinforced with further exercises in sequential storytelling. Body language, facial expressions, dramatic lighting, camera angles, lettering, B&W rendering techniques are just a fraction of the tools at the disposal of the narrative artist.

Script Writing - Sholly Fisch; Tuesdays starting 11/17/20

For more than 30 years, Sholly Fisch has prowled the night as an award-winning, Eisner-nominated writer, whose 400+ credits run the gamut from Superman to Star Wars to Scooby-Doo, and from Clive Barker’s Hellraiser to Looney Tunes.  By day, Sholly has helped produce dozens of educational TV series, digital games, and magazines for kids, including Sesame Street, Cyberchase, The Magic School Bus Rides Again, The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That, and lots of things you've probably never heard of.

In this 6-week class, Sholly will introduce the mechanics of writing, storytelling, and creating characters for comics in various genres, while students create and share stories of their own.  Not to mention offering practical advice about breaking in (and staying in), working with artists and editors, and what to do when things go wrong.

Zbrush Digital Sculpting - Andrew Cassetta; Tuesdays starting 11/17/20

In this class students will understand how to use Zbrush and navigate through a digital 3D environment for creating artwork. The basics of Zbrush will be covered as well as the principles of sculpting, and how to sculpt a character from start to finish. The fundamentals of sculpture will be discussed and how they can be applied to our work in Zbrush.
