The Kubert School, is very proud to announce the following scholarships winners

 

Incoming 1st Year Scholarship

The Joe Kubert Scholarship - Ulysses Roseo Decided in August, 2019. This very special award honoring The Kubert School's founder is based on merit and worth $2,500 and is available to all incoming registered first year students. 

Sergio Cariello Scholarship - Noah Jacquez Decided in August, 2019. $1,000 Award for a worthy incoming student going to TKS. Sponsored by comic book artist and an alumni of the school, Sergio Cariello.

Norman Maurer Memorial Scholarship - ADRIAN WOOLNOUGH Norman Albert Maurer (May 13, 1926 – November 23, 1986), a comic book artist and writer, was also a director and producer of films and television shows. $2000 Award for a worthy 1st Year Student going into the 2nd Year at TKS; Sponsored by the  family and friends of Norman Maurer.

A Wave Blue World Scholarships - MARIANO BENITEZ CHAPO and LORENZO JILES  A Wave Blue World is a comic book/graphic novel publishing company for creator-owned projects. Two $1,000 Award for a worthy 1st Year Student going into the 2nd Year at TKS; Sponsored by A Wave Blue World.

Storyteller Award - FRANCESCO CRIVELLI  $500 1ST YEAR TO 2ND Presented  on behalf of Comic Con Revolution

 Zapp Comics Scholarship - ETHAN FARINA $500 Award for a worthy 1st Year student going into the 2nd Year at TKS. Sponsored by ZAPP Comics of Wayne, New Jersey

Dave Cockrum Memorial Scholarship - ADELIA GUNDERSON  $500 Award for a worthy 2nd Year Student going into the 3rd Year at TKS; Sponsored by the family and friends of Dave Cockrum.

Dave Simons Inkwell Memorial Scholarship - RYUSEI SAWADA Dave Simons was an American comic book artist known for his work on Conan, Ghost Rider, Red Sonja, and Spider-Man for Marvel Comics, and Forgotten Realms for DC Comics. $1000 Award for a worthy 2nd Year Student going into the 3rd Year at TKS; Sponsored by the Inkwell Awards.

 

The La Greca Scholarship - ELENA MORTON $1500 Award to 2nd Year Student going into the 3rd Year to encourage and support emerging comic artists and cartoonists; Sponsored by Charlie LaGreca and Pop Culture Classroom.

 

Dave Monahan Memorial Scholarship - KEN NSIDINANYA Kubert School alumnus Dave Monahan was a graduate of the Class of ’99. He worked in the Kubert Art Store before starting to receive freelance work from DC Comics (Pirana Press) and Dark Horse Comics. This scholarship was set up in his name after his untimely death due to a sudden illness shortly after he graduated.

$2000 Award for a worthy 2nd Year Student going into the 3rd Year at TKS; Sponsored by the Monahan family.

Jumpstart Scholarship - PETER CLINTON Presented on behalf of Comic Con Revolution

Phil Amara Scholarship - ZACK MAROIS $500 award annually, for a graduating student to produce his/her original sequential work; Sponsored by children's book author and former comics editor Phil Amara.

Kubert School Gallery Showcase - Thursday, December 12th, 2019

The Kubert school will host a gallery showcase featuring the artwork of our faculty, on Thursday evening December 12, from 5 - 8 p.m.




If you're in the Dover area, please stop by the school and enjoy the artwork along with light refreshments.

She colors our world

Congratulations are due to 2009 Kubert School graduate Tamra Bonvillian, who won the appellation of Best Colorist, at the 2019 Mike Wieringo Comic Book Industry Awards.

The Mike Wieringo Comic Book Industry Awards is an annual celebration of the creativity, skill and fun of comics. The nomination ballot is determined by fans and pros alike.

Michael Lance Wieringo (June 24, 1963 - August 12, 2007), who often signed his work Ringo, was an American comic book artist best known for his work on DC Comics' The Flash, Marvel Comics' Fantastic Four, and his co-creation Tellos.

Another fantastic addition to our teaching staff.

The Kubert School is proud to announce that award-winning writer Erica Schultz will join its illustrious faculty starting with the 2019-20 school year.


Erica is a comic book writer, editor and publisher. She has chronicled the adventures of such well-known characters as Daredevil, Xena: Warrior Princess, the sisters of Charmed, and Hawkgirl. She is also the co-creator and publisher of M3, which is the 2012 winner of the Burbank International Film Festival for Best Comic Book. She has worked for companies such as DC Entertainment, Marvel Entertainment, Image Comics, and Dynamite Entertainment. She will be teaching Story Adaptation and Writing and Imaginative Drawing.

We are proud to welcome Amy Chu to our teaching staff.

 The Kubert School is proud to announce that Amy Chu will be another addition to its faculty in the 2019-20 school year. “To be joining such an illustrious faculty at this legendary institution is a dream come true,” said Chu. “I’m looking forward to working with the third year students to teach them the basic business survival skills that every creator needs.”


Amy Chu is a professional writer for DC Entertainment, Marvel Entertainment, other comic book publishers, and most recently, Netflix. Her work includes Wonder Woman, Poison Ivy, Red Sonja, X-Men, Ant-Man and Deadpool. She is also the co-founder of Alpha Girl Comics, publisher of Girls Night Out, The VIP Room, and Meridien City.  She is a frequent guest and speaker at comic conventions around the world. 


Chu received dual degrees from Wellesley College (East Asian Studies) and MIT (Architectural Design) and an MBA from Harvard Business School. She has many years of start up and business consulting experience, including serving as the Executive Director of the Asian American Arts Alliance where she provided management and technical assistance to artists and arts organizations. She will be teaching Business of Art/On-the-Job

Kubert School Boasts new additions

The Kubert School is proud to announce its newest additions to its illustrious faculty for the 2019-20 school year.


Taylor Esposito is a freelance letterer for numerous publishers (DC Comics, Dynamite, and Legendary). He is also a former staff letterer for DC and production artist/digital compositor for Marvel Entertainment. He operates his own graphic design business specializing in logo design, lettering, and comic book production. He will be teaching Lettering and Digital Production.


The Kubert School also welcomes John Hazard, who is returning to the faculty. He is a flash designer for Nick.com and Rare Medium Group. He has also been an art director for Nickelodeon (ROMEO) and National Internet Services. He has also worked as a freelance artist for Hirsch International. He will be teaching Intro to Animation and Humor & Caricature.

Garden State Comic Fest - June 29th, 30th

The Kubert School will be attending The Garden State Comic Fest once again this year. 

The festival will be held at the Mennen Arena in Morristown, NJ


Since this is practically in our backyard, a number of Kubert School  instructors, graduates and students will be exhibiting their work at the con.

Congratulations 2019 Graduates

On Wednesday, May 23rd we celebrated the the Class of 2019 at our annual graduation dinner.

There were 20 members of this year's graduating class and you can find samples of their work by following the Graduating Class link on our home page.

Our guest speaker this year was comic book writer, musician and attorney Charles Soule, best know for writing Daredevil, She-Hulk, Death of Wolverine and various Star Wars Comics.

We wish our graduates the best and we're sure you'll be seeing a lot more of their work in the years to come.

Fanfaire NYC February 16 -17

Adam Kubert and the Kubert School will be attending Fanfaire NYC, on February 16th and 17th.


Adam will be on a panel called: How To Make Comics Better, at 10:00 am on Saturday, the 16th and the school will be participating in portfolio reviews both days.
